Dana Point, California History
If you have driven around Dana Point then you will notice the original 1920's historical Dana Point homes built in the quiant Spanish style. In San Clemente, they neighbor town to the south, these homes are know as "Ole Hanson homes," named after the founder of San Clemente. In Dana Point, these historical homes are known as Wooddruff homes, named after one of the founders of Dana Point. 1923 there were actually three founders of Dana Point: Sidney Wooddruff, Harry Chandler and M. Sherman started a group to start the syndication of the city of Dana Point. Similar to San Clemente, a small number of homes and commercial buildings were built in attracting heavy investors to invest in the new city. Homes were named after different colors of lanterns after the city's naval background. Today, a lot of the streets still have these names like "Goldern Lantern," "Violet Lantern," etc. The depression soon put a stop to the mass building of Dana Point but these historical Wooddruff homes still exist!
